Notes

Ingredients

For the meatballs:

  • 250g lamb mince

  • 1 clove garlic, crushed

  • 3 spring onions, finely chopped

  • 1 tsp. ground coriander

  • 1/2 tsp. ground cumin

  • 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon

  • pinch of chilli flakes

  • 1 tbsp. parsley, chopped

  • Salt & pepper

  • 1 egg, beaten

For the sauce:

  • Light olive oil/vegetable oil

  • 400g chopped tomatoes

  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

  • Pinch sugar

  • Rice or bread, to serve

Method

  1. Combine the minced lamb, garlic, spring onions, ground coriander, ground cumin, ground cinnamon, chilli flakes, parsley and salt and mix thoroughly. Add a little less than half of the egg to bind the mixture. You may need even less.

  2. With wet hands, shape the mixture into 8 meatballs.

  3. Heat a drizzle of oil in a frying pan over a medium-high heat and add the meatballs. Fry, turning occasionally, until brown all over.

  4. Pour off all but 1 tbsp. of the fat and add the chopped tomatoes, ground cinnamon and sugar. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce is nice and thick.
